stringing first flemish string disaster need help

Post by cumberlandxbow »

I got a new Flemish string for my axiom (my first Flemish string). I installed it, shot a few shots and noticed the string was against my S5 system. After excellent guidance from everyone here, I was told to twist the string to adjust the brace height to get it off the pads. Tonight I tried to twist the string and in the process untwisted the loop which I believe means $36 out the window.

Before I buy another one, I wanted to get some help from you folks. When you "twist" the string are you twisting it from the serving or just under the loops? If you twist on both sides of the serving by the loop do you put equal number of twists on each side of the serving? Also, do you have any tips on how to make sure the loop doesn't untwist?

Luckily I have my stock string that I can reinstall and use if need be. I really appreciate everyone's help on this forum. If you have links to videos or other assistance on how to install a Flemish string, please shoot them my way.

Not necessary to twist both end's equal .As long as you go clock wise on 1 end is fine ,for what you want .And it wont effect anything ,windage will stay the same 99% of the time .
Now it's gonna stretch a little ,so be prepared to twist a few times .till it get's wore in to where it dont go any further towards the reds.

I had to twist mine 6 times to get it done .
when i first put the flemish on the x bow ,i let it set over nite to let it stretch some too.

I took mine 1/2 to the reds. Now it's 1/4 from the reds with no more stretching ,It's all set .

Counter clock wise = shorter string = higher brace height

This is what I do to set the BH, (twist the string). I cock the CB with the string aid. Then I take the string loop off of one end only and while holding the loop I twist it CCW a couple of turns. Re-install the string and de-cock the string aid. I check the BH for 1/8" gap to the S5 rubbers and repeat the twist process if necessary. It does NOT matter which end of the string you take off or which end you twist.

Long story short: Remove one end, twist it in the direction the string is wound.
(Apply serving in same direction so it tightens when sting is wound)

Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for all the advice. I received a new string and installed it like a seasoned pro...pretty easy when you get the right instruction! I found the FFF to be faster and quieter than the standard string that was on my Axiom. Accuracy was phenomenal as well.

You all are great! Thanks for the help.

If you are looking from between the limb tips [w/ bow on your lap] it's clockwise.

I you are looking at a limb tip from the outside, it's counter clockwise.

FFF's come w/ some twists in them, Excel usually need you to figure them out[no twists] so you are tightening the serving.

New factory strings are served by Danny Miller, you can use the example I gave above.

What hasn't been mentioned much is flipping the string end for end when you wax it to let the claw eat on the other side of the serving.

Your turn, Boo, lol.
