Tac Pac Question

At the bottom of the grip on the Tac Pac there is a cap which when removed; you find a spring loose in the grip. What is the purpose of this spring?

Just a guess, maybe to keep any item you put in there tight. Compressed inside so there's nothing loose rattling around?

It will hold a spare AA or AAA battery.
