Finally!
After 10 months of ownership, countless target shots, many hours hunting, and plenty of string wax, I dropped a nice doe yesterday with my Exocet.
Pretty textbook event; a 39-40 yard shot right where I always practice, and I was shooting from an elevated position so I knew I had to treat it like 35 yards. Firebolt with a Rage two-blade mechanical, it went right where I aimed it. She bolted and made a racket crashing through the woods....but only for a couple of seconds and then silence. I didn't see where it hit her but when I went to spot where I hit her, I knew it was going to be a simple tracking exercise. Thick brush but a clear blood trail (leaves have not started to fall yet here in VA). She made it about 100 feet and then expired, unfortunately at the bottom of a 5 foot deep ravine/creekbed (that was thankfully dry). Lifting her out was a chore.
I only recovered half of the bolt. It went straight through and must have hit a rock or tree and broke in half. Unfortunately only able to find the back half. The front half, with my pricey Rage mechanical broadhead, was nowhere to be found. Maybe I'll find it when the leave are down....I'll see if I can borrow a metal detector......
Very nice way to start the season.

Nice shot, Congrats. I one had one expire in a deep ditch and it was most certainly a chore and a half to get the small buck out.

Re: Finally!
Your first deer and many more to come I'm sure.
When the back of an arrow is found on a pass through then the front should not be far away. Hard to say when it broke but may have happened as it went through the deer but it will have left a trail of hair.
It just may not been where you think or in the position you think.
It likely will not be stickling in the ground.
It could be standing up amongst the brush you mentioned.

Re: Finally!
Congratulations on the doe. If you dont find the front half of your arrow (and your pricey BH) it is my experience that the blades will be trashed anyway and need replacement so it's probably not as big of a loss. At least it helps to think like that!!

Re: Finally!
A couple of NoVA counties have an early antlerless season, 9/7-10/4. Statewide archery begins 10/5.
