treestands and cocking your bow?

Post by bobcattrapper »

Just curious? Ok you cock your bow and pull it up in your stand with a rope.I think you only get one shot at a deer if you miss but if its still looking around do you just watch the deer or is there a way to cock your bow in the stand?

I cocked mine in my climbing stand. Once. It wasn't fun. Now my follow up shot is with a .45 lol.

I use the 2 man tree stands because I like the extra room and I am able to cock/uncock my Equinox from the stand. I use a rope for the CB & one for my pack and a third for my life line.

i cock and decock mine in the stand all the time. I cant understand why some guys have a problem.i do it in my summit viper. my lone wolf sit and climb and my Loc-on. and any other stand I may try.its the same as being on the ground to me. just place the stirrup on the platform. easy peasy
I don't like the idea of pulling up a cocked bow.

Couple years ago I missed a doe, figured the hunt was over, but the more fuss I made trying to cock my bow, and it was very difficult, the more deer that come over to see what the fuss was about.
I was hunting with a member of this forum, on land I had not hunted before.
I was sitting with an extended leg.
Did manage the manuver, and a doe.

I practiced this a week ago. I attached the cocking rope. While sitting down, bend leg at knee, inserted foot into stirrup, Grab cocking rope handles with my hands, and extended my leg out. Worked great. Of course I wasn't shaking with a deer looking at me wondering what the heck I was doing.

I'm a little confused about this myself. In a climber like my summit viper how do you just stand up and cock like normal when you have climbing bar/rest in front of you? The only way I see this happening is putting the bow over the side then bringing the butt end of the stock inside the bar with you until you can get the stirrup on the platform. I have not tried this so I can't say if it will work.
