Choosing a xbow
Choosing a xbow
Hi everybody. Because of my injured shoulder I decided to switch from compound bow to xbow. Due to reliability and simply concept I am thinking to buy Excalibur. I am not definitely decided if Eclipse or new 355 or 380. As a newbie I do not have any experience but too fast xbow may possibly have some disadvantages for me/I will mostly do 3D- hunting is no options because of European regulations, speed is too high, extensive damage to targets, pull out arrows, ... Versus compact and modern concept/. What is your advice?
Thanks a lot.

Check to see if there are speed restrictions for 3D where you plan to shoot.
Personally for 3D shooting I'd choose the lower poundage bow. That's plenty of speed and power for 3D. I shoot one of the older brown Vixens for 3D and usually do alright against the faster bows.

Re: Choosing a xbow
Thanks. There are still valid "old rules" for maximum of 190 lb and speed approx.300ft, but progress is pushing them to change. But there are also unlimited matches. So I am thinking for 200 Eclipse and heavy arrows to keep it as close as possible under limits. Does have anybody experience with Eclipse?

matrix, baby
Excalibur is the best recurve crossbow I ever tested.
Thanks for mentioning my blog on Excalibur's Facebook Page the other day. And hope I could add some value here to the community.

Re: Choosing a xbow
That's a toughie, matrix is a flat shooter but it will bury the arrows into the targets. At 20 yards my 380 will put an arrow right thru my shot-up rhinehart. And on my 3d buck it takes alot of effort to pull an arrow out. Using arrow lube and having a good arrow puller from Danny miller will help.
But for repeat shots, and with a bad shoulder I would consider a lower poundage bow. Especially if you are able to use a scope. I would lean towards a vixen or a ibex, Phoenix.
Good luck

Re: Choosing a xbow
Thanks for advices. Bino is allowed, there is just one category for xbow. Handling with arrows is important especially for old Mckenzie targets. What about experience with Vortex / Eclipse? Any cons?

Re: Choosing a xbow
I had an Eclipse for a while. Nice shooting bow that shoots flat and very accurate. It does bury the arrow fairly deep into a target making arrow retrieval a bit of a challenge at times. Only con I'd say is the finish. Camo doesn't show the dings as much as the black finish does, because under that nice black carbon look finish is white fiber glass.
Re: Choosing a xbow

Re: Choosing a xbow
Sorry for delay, Thanks all for your posts. I bought Eclipse 3 weeks ago. It will take a lot of time to be quite familiar with 3D targets up to 50 meters, but I am looking forward to enjoying it. Beautiful shooting feeling and its a great passion. Good luck to all who can hunt with bow and xbow.
