How Do I Fix My Exocet?

Post by trky chsr »

I have an Exocet 200 which I bought new and have had for a few years. When I took it out for the first time this fall I noticed it was a little loose in the stock behind the trigger guard. I tightened it (or so I thought) but after a few shots it was loose again. I took it inside and dis-assembled it and found the hole the rear screw screws into is stripped, I can actually insert the bolt without screwing it in.

So, what are my options here? I have a tap set so I could make it larger and use a larger bolt but I'm open to others ideas. TC

welcome to the forum ..
you can do what you said with the tap and larger screw but you may want to contact Excalibur first. They will take care of you man.

I would tap it oversized. If you want to keep the original looking bolt you can even peen the edges of the existing hole and run the proper sized tap thru it and re-use the original bolt with some loc-tite. But the downside is a rail that looks like its been peened when the stock is off.

Not much room on the rail for drilling and tapping a bigger size screw.

If in USA, call Danny, he'll warranty it at [740] 483-2312.

another option ---and this could be tricky----
glue a nut to the inside of the rail. use jb weld or a good epoxy

I did that on one and it worked fine, just don't get crazy with the epoxy.

If you glue a nut inside, you would have to use a shorter than stock trigger screw.

I've done something similar. I welded a nut to a peice of sheet metal the same width as the inside of the rail. No glue or epoxy required. I figured that if the epoxy/glue let loose and you wanted to get the stock off, your now stuck with a spinning nut and a counter-sunk bolt you have to try to cut.
