Shrink to fit vanes?

Post by Kegbelly »

Anyone have any experience with the shrink to fit vanes for crossbow use? I've got some old carbon arrows with torn up vanes and thought about making a few arrows for rabbits. Since I'd basically be shooting into the ground I didn't want to use my best arrows. Not much in the way of real archery shops in my area, had a couple arrows refletched before and they flew like poo so I hung it up. Just wondering how these perform? Thanks!

I have used them & found that they shoot as well as the other vanes. Make sure that you do NOT dip them too long in the boiling water.

I used them before I got my jig, they are expensive but work well and easy to do. Dip them slowly then pull them out, this way you do not get any air bubbles.

If you plan on using these often it gets expensive , you may want to look into a jig like the Arizona E-Z Fletch, then you can swap out all three vanes at a time or just one or two depending on how many vanes are damaged.

I bought the easy fletch by nap and they work fine.Just dip in boiling water for 10 seconds and it's done.

I'm not looking to do many, probably only 3. The arrows were given to me so I'd only be out the cost of the vanes if I lost or broke one, just didnt want to shoot my good ones into the ground. Might give them a try, thanks for the input!

I've been using the 2" Quik Spin's for the last few years and love them. In fact, ever since I started using them, I haven't pulled out the Bitzenburger once!
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. Gen 27:3-4

Fletched some arrows for Coltons vert. bow with some and they are tough enough for an 11 yr old kid to not tear 'em up. I'm impressed

I used them on Easton Aluminum Arrows(2216).The arrows were cut to 20" length, use to use them on my compound bow.Every arrow I put the shrink vanes on flew 3' left of bullseye.Put the same shrink vanes on a Fire Bolt Carbon arrow and arrow flew dead center every shot out to 40 yards. Was using a 150 grain Bolt Cutter broadhead on all arrows.Don't know why the aluminum arrows wouldn't fly straight.Might be due to the total weigh difference.I have no idea.
