One messed up vane on a Firebolt

Post by Peacemaker »

I did pretty well in recovering some of my Firebolts that went subterranean on me. One broken shaft, one mangled broadhead, and a few dulled ones.

On one of the Firebolts, one of the vanes got crushed; it is not torn or coming off, but the material is misshapen, and it surely won't fly right. What are my options? Is there a cost effective way to replace the vane or refletch the whole thing? IS there a way to iron or otherwise flatten the material?

I figure that the arrow costs about $8 (street price) to replace....so it may not be worth it....maybe it just goes into my parts bin? Trash?

Thanks

First try heating it out. Use a hair dryer on Hi and pass it back and forth across the vane, alternating sides.

Where do you live ?? Maybe someone who has a jig lives near you and will replace the one vane for you if the hair dryer does not work.

It will probably fly just fine. Give it a shoot.

Heated it with a hair dryer, then clamped it between two flat pieces of wood overnight. It is now perfectly flat, and at the right angle. Looks good as new, but it doesn't quite have the shallow curve that the other vanes have, but I suspect that it will shoot straight. If not, I can play with it to try to get the curve back.
