Anybody used a Chrony app?
There appear to be a few archery chronograph apps that measure the measure the arrow speed using the sound of the crossbow/bow firing and the sound of the impact on the target.
Has anybody tried one of these out?
here's one for about $6. I saw one for 99 cents but lost the link.

Good find One Shot Scott.
I downloaded the Chrono Connect Lite for android.
Too dark outside to see the target..... will have to wait to try it.

Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
I just downloaded the app.
Set the app up with the right information, I think..
My F-1 is reading 301FPS, same as it had been since day 1.
Chrony app is reading 355, then 354fps.
It may be the settings that I have off, but I think it is going to work.
Only 2 shots, and a quick run of the settings, so I think with some fine tuning of the app settings, it may be a winner, it was consistent anyways, and that's a start.

Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
I'd be interested in hearing if you can dial it in better.
My F1 gave me 310-311 for my Exocet last year. I haven't retested yet this season....I couldn't find one of the rods...which I found the other day.
But if we assume your chrony to be correct, then you are seeing a 16-17% error, though consistently. so maybe OK for checking the relative effect of adjustments or mods.....it's certainly easier than setting up the chrony, but 16% is a lot of error IMO.

Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
There was error, but it may not be the app. It seems to be geared around BB guns, so there are lots of setting that need to be made first.
Don't use my initial test as a basis for the app, there is more to do before it can be judged as good or not.
It was consistent, and in my books that is huge. I will try again tomorrow when I actually read the instructions. I gave it a quick test, and my results are based on that.
I have a good feeling it will do just fine, when the proper parameters are entered.

When I went thru the settings, it appears that most of the parameters are for calculating the ft/lbs or setting the fps vs m/s.Pydpiper wrote:There was error, but it may not be the app. It seems to be geared around BB guns, so there are lots of setting that need to be made first.

There appeared to be a setting for audio sensitivity, one for distance to target/muzzle and a couple of options for types of pellet guns (that spring/gas piston setting my have an effect if the crossbow makes two distinct sounds) and a debounce setting that could help.
It's dark again...
Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
Anymore updates from those who have used one of these apps?
Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
Tried Bowometry for Android. Can't seem to get it to work. Won't hear a cross bow but apparently I clap 663fps. Its only a couple bucks but still a waste.

Re: Anybody used a Chrony app?
Here is a related article on using a soundcard to measure the average velocity of a bullet that I read a couple of years ago. The apps are working on a similar principle. It makes for an interesting read, remember that the sound based measurements are measuring average velocity and not muzzle velocity. They are likely to read a bit lower than what shooting through a chronograph will. Makes for some interesting reading.
