Anybody else aking advantage of our new Ontario dove season?

Post by Pydpiper »

I have about 25 birds in the freezer now, it is awesome meat! Fast little birds for their size too. No shortage of the little fellows either.
My wife cleaned all the birds for me, and it preparing them for dinner tonight with a recipe she found on line.

Have to dig in to the regs for exact numbers, but I think it is 15 a day, 75 possession.
They are with the migratory birds, no camo needed, non toxic shot.

I think that firebolts are non-toxic. But you gotta be pretty good to hit a dove with a crossbow.

Bacon wrapped dove meat.. This was a first for us, a great way to hunt! I am finding shot shells in steel is not all that easy in 7 or 8 for a 20 or a .410. 12 gage works, but a good hit, is a bad bird.

When I was growing up it was a tradition at my grandparents house and at one of aunt and uncles house to have several dove shoots a year and for all the men to clean the doves when they came in at dark and the women would be ready to fry the doves and had other stuff ready too. There would be 10 to 20 people at these events. Pyd, you have inspired me to start that old tradition anew, even though it will probably only be me and Robert. :)

Enjoy Ray, our thoughts here in this house, is that anything we can do as a family is a terrific thing.
Even if only two people, it is still a great way to spend time.
Happy my story helped give you a little bump, times with loved ones are the best times. And.. You get to eat the treats when it's over. :D
