decocking

Post by Deerstalker »

This dummy tried to decock my Equinox while in the tree stand BUT I forgot to remove the arrow first. I was lucky that my son was on the ground and quickly climbed up and was able to help out the old fool!! The BH had just started to penetrate my boot! Think, think, think. :( :o :( :o

Dang, lucky you! That your son was there. Always gotta keep our minds on things like that. Try to develop a routine.

Lucky indeed. I let mine down cocked, arrow removed. Less chance of anything going wrong on tera firma

Glad you didn't get hurt.

That's the main reason I just shoot a field point into the ground to unload. I'd rather destroy an old arrow than put a broadhead through my foot.

Have done that before, but no problem now. I leave my arrows at 20 inches and when I put my foot in stirrup it kicks arrow out of the way. Hawk

I spent 20 bucks and bought a small discharge target.I just carry a field point with me on one bolt.I find I actually like to shoot it if I don't get anything after a hunt.Glad your ok.That could of been pretty bad.

I think of something like that happening every time I uncock my crossbow . If it happens in the dark I always feel the arrow channel to be sure there's no bolt there, even though I "KNOW" there's none there.

I went hunting with my 380 for the first time today. Saw no deer but it was only the last 3.5 hours of the day. Carried my bow back to the car cocked and used the cocking aid on firm, level ground and the recommended one hand to pull the trigger and depress the ADF device at the same time. Piece of cake even with a 260 lb draw weight.

Next time I won't be leery of doing it at the base of my tree. Don't really know why I was to begin with, I'm stronger than most my age and at least as strong as 75% that are half my age, but it just didn't seem like my full pull was taking the load off the trigger. When I finally pulled it there was barely a click and the string eased down without any problem at all.......... VERY sweet! :D

I am so glad you are OK and had help at the ready.

This scenario can easily happen with the Equinox. The 20" arrow/bolt doesn't cover the foot stirrup opening even with a broadhead.

Another reason I like my Matrix 355. An 18" arrow/bolt covers the foot stirrup opening and will be noticed before decocking.
