Very sad story, but I would have made the same same decision myself if able to make it like he did. Friend of mine, fell 25 ft when his tree step broke, and fell and broke his back last yr. Had to lifeline him by helicopter when they finally after him laying in the woods for 6 hrs, they found him and got him out. I was hunting then when I got home,,heard the chopper land,,and got in my truck and went searching to see what was happening to find out. Really messes you up when it happens. He didn't have his saaftely line on either. Stay safe everybody.

Sad sad story, but what makes it even worse is it could have been prevented. I saw no mention of a safety harness, but apparently he wasn't wearing one. It's statistical fact in my state more hunters are injured in falls from stands than any other type of hunting accident. Wear a harness, folks, we might be reading about you one day. :(

Remember that it is NOT 'IF' but 'WHEN' you will fall from a tree stand. Please always wear your safety gear when climbing. I was lucky that I could walk away from a 16' fall!

It's a very sad situation.

I'm sitting here using my hands to type, full mobility and my first reaction is that's its so very sad he choose to end his life. Choosing not to be a burden on his wife, choosing not to watch his kid grow up.

The truth is I don't fully understand his situation. My first reaction is that he's not in the right frame of mind to make such a call after being brought to just to make that choice.. So sad.

But if I were him I would likely have done the same thing. But he was still someone's husband and a little girls daddy and you don't need mobility to be great at that.

I will dig my harness out ..

Not hunting related, but a year or two ago I did a 22' fall, on to my back, and managed to walk away from it.
I am way more careful these days.
Harness for me!
