Replacing rubber coating on Summit tree stand cables

Post by BryanOney »

The rubber on the cables for my Summit tree stand is missing in quite a few spots. I googled this and there seems to be 2 ways to fix it. One way is to buy replacement shrink wrap and put it on the cables. The other way is to buy a can of spray on bed liner in a can and put that on the cables. Any one have any experience with either of methods that could give advice on how either method worked out. Thanks

I buy the replacement tubing from Bass Pro. Take the old off with a box cutter, slide the new one on & shrink it with a heat gun or hair dryer. Good as new!! :D

I did the same thing except I got mine from Ebay for $8.25 and a few bucks for shipping. Worked great for me. I used a torch to shrink mine. I will get a heat gun for the next time.

I replaced mine last year. got them of ebay. I cant remember the seller but they were sold as a better than factory replacements..i don't see anything better about them and they are showing quiet a bit of wear already..
they were easy to install. I used a heat gun..
I never thought about the bed liner stuff. huh I would like to hear more on that

I personally would not use bedliner spray. Replacing the heat shrink tubing gives me the opportunity to inspect the cables.

IMO the shrink tubing is way too soft, it gets torn up too easy. I've replaced mine once already and it needs it again. Never tried the bedliner stuff but seems like it would be too rigid to use on cables that bend and flex a lot. I've thought about using the plastic dip stuff like for dipping tools in. With either option though if it doesnt work or you need to redo it later, gonna be a booger to remove. I think you could only re-coat it so many times before it makes the cables too thick.
