climbing treestands

Post by TYE »

Anyone use or have experience with climbing treestands?

Dad and I are thinking about getting some mainly for the gun hunt next year but would likely use bowhunting too even though I already have a ladder stand.

They seem like a great idea and very comfy.

I have the Summit Viper also, its ok. Its not bad but it ain't the best either. Try one out before buyin. I got mine 7 yrs ago & right off the bat i didn't like the bottom platform set up. It doesn't have a mesh, so my boots are always goin between the rungs when i am standin up lookin behind my stand fer deer.

The Summit Viper is very comfortable and safe and is certainly worth a look.

I noticed that they have a mat you can buy which fits the platform. It looks like it would cut down the noise you make shuffling your feet around.

My son an I have the lone wolf climbers with the belts an cam loc an the easiest to set up in the dark an the quietest by far than any stand we ever had an lite an compact but not comfy for long sits. but sure nice for being mobile with a quick set up.

ive tried a bunch of tree stands over the years and summit is by far the best out there..
I have two vipers and ill not even look at anything else.
I had a lone wolf and I thought it was a little quieter but (comparing it to the viper) I didn't like the way it climbed it was slower, I didn't have as much room in it and I had no comfortable way to hold my crossbow.
it was rock solid in the tree though. and packed well.
if you buy a viper make sure its the SD alumin model not the classic which is steel and weighs a ton.

I like my summit viper as well. With the rubber coated cable it does not make much noise setting up. I always bring mine in and out of the woods so there is no frost on the cushion seat and to keep from leaving scent at ground level. I lengthen the straps on my seat so that it hangs down under the rail and I use the rail for an armrest. You just have to leave the bottom piece lower so that your knees go under the rail. I hunted in mine several times before I realized this was the most comfortable way. Now I can sit all day.

Also I have had mine for around 10 years and have never had a problem with my boots going through the rungs of platform and I wear size 11.

Mine don't go thru the rungs, but when you turn sideways standin up lookin behind tree. Thats when my boots at times go over abit makes you feel abit concerned & uncomfortable. If'en you put yer hand on either side & push/put weight on it it will move on you n make you queasy!

Summit seems to be the most popular climber out there. Timber tall and treewalker treestands are two more good ones. They have all come a long way.
