joined the orange army

Post by wabi »

First day of gun season here in Ohio so I grabbed the new CVA Wolf and hit the woods before sunrise. Tried a new location on the farm I hunt (a box blind the landowner let a friend build several years ago) and it paid off.
By 8:30AM I had a doe field dressed and was waiting for the landowner to bring the little green Deere (John Deere 650) to haul her out.
The Phoenix might be jealous, but meat's meat.

Now off to see if my son can get a shot this evening!

Nice shot Wabi. You gotta love those plump OH deer! I miss them. Good thing you went out too. I know how rough it gets up there once gun season is over.

WABI,

The Barnes 250 gr. and 300 gr. expanders are the only thing I shoot out of my Encore. Deer don't go far after you hit them with either one.

I almost cry when I shell out the $$ for them, but I'm sure glad I have one in the barrel when a deer shows up. Never shot one yet that wasn't laying there when the smoke cleared!

+1 on the Barnes Expander
As much as I love bow hunting with my Excalibur there is one thing I always miss after flinging an arrow. Its what I like to call the BOOM FLOP effect that my muzzleloader produces.
If you ever get sick of cleaning that corrosive powder, give Blackhorn 209 a try. Its about as easy to clean as smokeless powder and its uneffected by moisture. I wish I would have known about it sooner. Congrats on the deer!

Sure wish I could find BH209 locally. No dealers handle it around here and I'm too tight to pay the hazmat fee to get it shipped.
