Bolt retainer

Post by childrs »

I added an anti dry fire mount to my Exocet. The bolt retainer extends quite a bit farther on the barrel now. Is there a shorter bolt retainer available or do I cut the original off and bend to match it to the same spot it was before?

It's works fine where it is further down.
Is there any reason you want to shorten it?

The longer bolt retention bar has a loud twang when shot. It is plenty accurate, just noisier.

Just use a piece of shrink tube on it. Takes a lot of the twang out of it.

Shrink wrap helps, but I have a modified cable jax (bowjax) pulled over mine. The 2 lower rubber fingers are cut off so not to interfere with the arrow. That bowjaxtype jelly rubber is a great sound deadener. What distance is there between your arrow tensioner and rail without an arrow inserted?
One of my bows arrived here without a gap and was noisy as hell, so I just bent the retainer back carefully to the same as the other bows (about 2-3mm from rail), then checked the tension. It must be tight enough that the arrow must not fall out when the bows pointed downwards.

I cut mine shorter but beware it is really hard to drill a new hole in it
