Matrix 380 success

Post by Wisc Mac »

It's been a crazy season here in Wis. Great start to the rut. Passed on a nice 10pt, hoping to get a 15 pt we had seen in the area all summer. Then lost a really nice 10pt during gun season (different area from where we bow hunt). I thought it was a good hit - tracked him 1.5 miles up and down the bluffs of SW WIsconsin - lots of blood and even bone fragments, the trail just disappeared about 10 ft from we found where he bedded for the night.

After the other disappointments, decided to take a doe with my Matrix 380. A small doe came in at 25 yards. She wouldn't quarter away, so I ended up hitting broad side just behind the leg. The Black Eagle Execution tipped with a 125 gr Shwacker passed through with the Shwacker opening perfectly taking out both lungs and making a 1" gash across the top of the heart.

She was much easier to find then the buck I lost. Even more blood, plus she only made it 25 yards. I was very impressed with the Matrix 380, the BE Executioner, and the Shwacker.

Someone took the 15 pt during gun season, but the 10 pt I passed on earlier this fall is still running around (got him on the trail cam last week). If we ever get out of this deep freeze, I might try to harvest him. I really want to shoot the Matrix again.

Ditto that! I love my 380, totally awesome piece of equipment.

Sorry about the loss of that buck. Same thing happened to me years ago, I still think about it from time to time and wonder what went wrong........

Congrats on a great shot, nice when the pump room takes a hit. And on being out there for another season.
That 10 with your crossbow sounds like it would be a fine way to wind a season down.

Riflemanz - My son and I bow hunt on our 15 acres behind our house in Central St. Croix County in Western WI. (the Wis part of the Twin Cities). We gun hunt on 80 acres that is split down the middle by the Monroe - LaCrosse county line.

CONGRATS on the doe! Hopefully you'll still be able to get out and chase the buck again before the end of the season. Good luck!
