To remove the string you need a stringing aid. They are not expensive and you should own one to make brace height adjustments or to change strings.
Some people just like stepping on rakes

you would not be able to get it tight enough if left on the bow.
needs to be under a lot of tension to do it properly

even if you took the riser off rail you would be disappointed with the results

I have done it, but without the proper tension the serving doesn't last very long before seperating.
Pull the two main rail bolts to seperate the riser and limbs, and off you go.
Best just to do it right though.

As I learn and relearn it seems string wants to be taken off and turned as it wears.
Keep things even.A string changer required in time to change a string.Why not as Boo mentioned be able to maintain proper brace height?
Besides the re curve advantage of in the field string replacement or adjustment should be taken advantage of and be prepared for.
