Put a leupold shotgun scope on my 355 hate it.

Post by gtonini »

I order and put a leupold Vx 1 shotgun scope on my 355 with leupold low rings I certainly hope it shoots better but the look is way out of proportion the origional scope looked much better. Keep a eye on the trading post guys the scope, mounts and butler creek flip up covers maybe on there !

At 9.9 ounces the Leupold is certainly lighter than the scope that you took off, to me that is a useful plus. Add better glass and twilight performance and the added 2 to 3 inches or so in a lighter package makes sense. Sit on for awhile, you may change your mind.

I am certain the clarity of your new Leupold will give the performance you are looking for in a quality optic. Plus even though your Leupold is longer, it is much lighter than the Tact-Zone scope.

I'll take dependability over looks anytime! Keep the Leupold and give it a chance.

I've had 3 or 4 different scopes fail on my Excaliburs over the years and even lost a deer because of a scope failure. (I checked accuracy before the hunt and the scope was right on. The scope changed POI on the shot, and I confirmed it was the scope immediately after the bad shot by checking POI at the bench rest on the same property I was hunting on.) Finally put a Leupold on my Phoenix a few years ago and haven't had any problems since. It's nice to know where the arrow is going to go when you pull the trigger.

Made in China. Quality is hit and miss and the glass used for the Excalibur scopes is OK for the price paid. I have always said, buy the best scope that your budget can afford.

Yeah ,its a dead ringer for the XB30 series so I would surmise Hawke is the OEM.

I think deer are much more likely to stop and look aghast at a horribly proportioned scope/crossbow combination, thus giving the archer more time to make a good shot. (You can see what I have in my signature, below.)

I could be wrong, but seeing better through a lighter scope seems way more important than what the scope looks like. If it improved my odds of taking deer cleanly, I'd put over sized purple binoculars on top.

Use that Leupold around dusk a few times and they will sure "grow on you". After a while you wont want anything else. Promise!

X If you get the Bolt there is no speed ring and is set up for 305 fps . But if you go to Nikon's web sight you can load your fps in there BDC and it will give you the yardage for each mil dot Just like for bullets in rifles . I tried it on my Matrix and it was pretty close . But like you I like The Tac Zone so far. My B-I-L is looking at the Redfield . Does the range finder work ok He wants it for his Axiom . He needs it to be close out to 40 Yards.

You need to loose a deer from a bad shot because your chinese scope gave it up. Been there done that. You will sing a different tune when it happens believe me. Why do you think they exchange them no questions asked?

Yes , but what is made in China and what is not ?
My new Leupold Arcadia Binos are made in China and some Redfield scopes are also . We all need to look at the box before we buy . I do must of my buying on line so that wasn't an option for me.

The Leupold Crossbones will be my choice to top off the 355 that I purchased from Big John for several reasons and a few are shown below

1. Big John proved that when topped with the Crossbones it was a tackdriver.
2. It will stand up to all the recoil any crossbow can give it & not lose it's zero.
3. Once sighted I'll be able to accurately use each chevron out to 60 yards.
4. High quality so it will stand up the punishment Murphy & I throw at it.
5. Excalibur and Leupold have proven themselves to me and the game I hunt deserve the best. I never want to lose a deer for any reason and especially because of the scope.
What you do next reflects what you believe.
