Matrix 3d Shooter

Post by snuffbox »

Over here in the jolly old UK we don't get to hunt so all our shooting is field archery.
In our society that does allow crossbows we are restricted to a max arrow speed of 300 fps and the bows must be cocked by hand,no aids allowed.
I really wanted a matrix as the shorter platform makes for a more comfortable hold because of the shorter length.
A standard 355 is way over powered without a bit of modification so with this in mind I was able to buy a secondhand one and get it shipped over..
After talking with various people and doing a bit of maths I decided to have a go with a power stroke of 9 1/2" thinking it would put me in the ballpark of the sort of spec I wanted.
With the work completed and the whole shebang nestled into Agings stock I got off him las year I took it down the woods today to check it out.
We got a power stroke of 9 1/2" with a draw weight of about 160 lbs.
Speed of 275fps with 330gn 20" arrows
The string is a standard Excalibur stock.
Balance is lovely and makes for a stable shot.
Accuracy is what I'd expect from any Excalibur and I could only check it out to 60yds.
All in all I'm over the moon with its performance. :D :D :D

Sounds great! arrows sound a bit long for the stroke? I have shot lots of 16 inch arrows with 110 brass inserts out front an shot great in my shorty bow with a stroke of around 10 inches i think I forget but it,s short

I have shot them good all the way down in length an shot good until I got to 12 inches an they are a little squirrelly at times . I would shoot a couple times an fly dead center like a dart an the next shot would wobble in flight an off a couple inches. maybe my shooting or a little tinkering an they may fly great. Now when you mess the end of an arrow up you can cut it down an tinker a little

Yes, It sounds very cool! 8)
I'm thinking the same, about 2"in. off that arrow and you'd be about 283 or FPS.
and no loss of accuracy!
Sounds like an all day shooter if I saw one!
Congrats! :)

Thanks for the positive comments guys.
I'll get some pics up once I remember how to do it.
The arrows are way too long but I've not had a chance to cut any down yet.
14" is the minimum were allowed but I was thinking on the lines of 16" should do the job.

Nice target bow.
I'd like to see a 275-300fps matrix be released. Anything higher is no good for target or 3D. Too many arrows lost from pass though & damaged fletching.

I mean no harm and hate to say this but as with the Relayers with the camo limbs they look a touch out of place. You should get a second pair of limbs and get them dipped to match the wood grain of the stock. That is my opinion and this world allows an opinion. Absolutely love your bow though, just think matching limbs it could look better and truly be one of a kind.

Edited to add just a example pic.

I was thinking that black limbs would look good on it,didn't know I could get them dipped to look woody.
Who does that then.
