ADF Installation

I recently put an original after market ADF on my Vortex Hank. I stripped out both of the two back screws and had to used a dremel tool to cut a slot in them and used a screwdriver to take them out. I replaced the two back screws and when I put them on I used fingernail polish instead of Loctite. I have not shot it yet as new limbs just came in today but I think the fingernail polish will hold them tightly and I will be able to remove them again when needed.

Yesterday I received an order of stuff from Danny Miller so today I started changing out scope mounts to the ADF mounts. The first bow was a Maxpoint AKA Paradox when I discovered the two screws that attach the arrow retainer spring were not 8/32 they were smaller sloted head screws. Once I removed the screws and the old piece of rubber i had to drill the holes out on the arrow (bolt) retainer spring so the new 8/32 hex heads fit. I Phoned Dan Miller and advised him of the screws not fitting. He said for awhile Excalibur was using sloted head smaller screws on the retainer springs. The Following three other bows
had the same sloted head screws and I had drill to make the screw holes larger.
These bows were an Exocet 175 lb straight riser, Exomag 200 lb straight riser and the first year Exomax 225 lb. I have not started on my son's bows yet but suspect they do not have the sloted head screws on the retainers since they are newer. " Into everyone's life a lttle rain must fall."

I don't have a ADF, but I did remove the tiny allen head scope base screws and replaced them with #20 Torx head 8-32 black oxide hardware. I have checked mine quit frequently and they haven't loosened even without a thread locker.

Wish I would have seen Don's way before I tried mine. I got first three screws out and the last one stripped out on me . Not sure what I am going to do yet, might just leave it and eat the cost of the adf not sure yet.

the dermal is the way if you have one..cut a slot in it and use a flat screwdriver.

A machine shop will likely cost you very little to extract it. It will cost you a phone call to find out.

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby you can get a cheap screw extractor set from them. It's really easy to do. Just use the drill bit to drill out the head and insert the reverse threaded extractor to back it out. It takes just a minute or two.

Thanks for the replies. I just need to pick which way and go for it. I just cant imagine drilling or cutting on something I just spent so much money on. But I know that's the only way now.

the dermal will do it but if your uncomfortable then defiantly take it to a machine shop .

I installed one on my new M355 and everything went smooth.No problems with lock tight at all.It is a great accessory to have on your bow and makes me feel even safer.I think that every crossbow should come with one....

Thanks for all the help folks. One more question and I am done. Are the instructions that come with it fairly comprehensive? I just don't want things flying out when I lift the mount off of the beast.
