UPDATE-Big John Arrows and HHA Optimizer

Post by paulaboutform »

Well, I got my shiny new Big John arrows yesterday and they look awesome. Off the bench at 20yards I'm punching out the X ring consistently. Total weight is 410gr. I've been waiting for what seems like forever to get out to the club to shoot and set up the HHA Optimizer I've had on my bow for months now. Tonight's the night and my hopes are high. I'll update with results when I'm done. Tooo excited! :D
★★★Update★★★

So I've got my HHA dialed in using my Big John arrows. I'll be doing more testing but on 3X magnification I was shooting bulls out to 70yards. That's all we've got at our archery range. I'll bring my rangefinder next time to check the 60-70yard targets because at 60yards I had to turn the HHA speed dial to 59yards and at 70yards I had to turn it to 65yards on the dial. It's freaky accurate as I punched groups as tight as about 1 1/2-1 3/4" at 70yards. That was set up on a bench completely supported where basically I just had to pull the trigger. The bow was not locked down though. The arrows John made up for me are beautiful and almost seem a shame to shoot. It's a good thing I'm shameless because these arrows are true performers. They're 410gr Zombies and I can't wait to core out a deer or moose or boar hog or.........
After some skepticism before setting it up, let me say this HHA Optimizer is excellent and I'd highly recommend it. Matched with my Big John arrows and M380 this is going to be a deadly combo for 3D and hunting.

Hey Norm. Lighting may have been an issue as I was shooting well into the dark. The club's range has floodlights set up. I've got to do more testing but it seems that I shot high on the higher magnification. I'm normally on 3X. I shot up to 9X just to try it out and always seemed high. I'll be doing more testing but to answer your question, I literally shot from 3X-9X.

Glad you like the HHA. It's a great tool.

I haven't given up on the HHA yet - once the snow melts and I can get back out on the range I'm going to re-install the HHA and shim the scope. But don't tell Dan! 8)

Never any doubt about it, John. Just would like to get by without shimming but if that's what it takes then that's what I'll do.

Thanks John. I'm a bit of a dinosaur with the computer stuff. It's about all I can do to email a pic from my phone. I only spent the one session with the HHA but did find you have to be very exact with your marks or it won't set up properly. Thanks again for the great arrows.
