John here's what I made for my Matrix. The serving I used is the Brown BCY Halo 0.24 and has about 30 shots on it.

Just to let you know Lou, the string you made for me is still going strong and the serving is still good to go. Awesome string that has put 7 deer in the freezer. Thank you again. :D

Thanks guys for the compliments, they're well deserved. I'm not modest.

Just kidding, however in all seriousness, my motto is: "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well." , and I try my best. They're not Boo Strings, but up to now my strings have served me well, and have never let me down.

John, FYI, below is the string with the 7.25" serving that I was talking about.

A 7.25'' serving will help save those rubber bumpers for sure.

Very nice looking string Comfybear ! What material do you prefer on your Flemish strings ?

.

Although I do put a 5.5" serving on my pre-Matrix string, I don't recommend it for the Matrix where the serving has to be 7.25"long to completely cover both REDS bumpers.

Why?
After making the one pictured above and testing it, I found that since the string is shorter than pre-Matrix strings and the REDS are 7" to outside edge, instead of only 5.5" on the older models, it made it look odd. It also added unnecessary extra weight, which lowered POI about 3" at 15yds in my basement.

I suppose if one uses a factory EL DynaFlight97 string, which is thinner and lighter than my strings, it might help. However, with my thicker 40 strand Flemish strings, the REDS hold up well, as long as they are rotated from time to time.

I use HMPE (High Modulus Polypropeth*ylene) string material, which goes by either the trade names FastFlight/Spectra (Brownell) or Dyneema (BCY).

I find it gives a softer shot and is more forgiving than string material which is made up of 2/3 HMPE and 1/3 Vectran. (i.e BCY 452X).

I like heavy strings and heavy arrows, and slightly slower speeds, because IMO excessive speed kills not only game animals, but archery equipment as well.

*- eth - they're three little letters, but they make a big difference.

2 more twists on the right side than the left, but you're not making helicopter blades right?

I didnt know that. Dyneema is the same stuff top quality winch ropes are made of...incredibly strong and pretty abrasion resistant. I bet it would make a tough crossbow string! I learned something new today :D

KB, check out the sites for BCY, and Brownell. They give you the breakdown on every material! Very informative.
