330 vs 355

Post by pslabaugh »

I am new to crossbows and am wondering about the comparison between these two. Ex cal says the 330 is enough for whitetails and since I am 5'5" and getting along in years I was considering it. However I don't want to get something marginal. Also, do you need to put the string stop suppressors on to help quiet or is that not necessary? What about dissipator bars? Thanks ahead of time

355 is jus faster than the 330. 330 is certainly enuff Bow to kill anything in North America. 330 is abit easier to cock

Well I have hunted deer for 50 years and started with a 45 lb bear recurve bow that shot a cedar arrow at I'm guessing around 170-180 fps when I was 12. I shot several deer dead with that bow. You are looking at a crossbow that is shooting from low 300 fps to the model 355 that should shoot an arrow 335 fps or so using a 400 gr arrow. Both of these bows are more than capable of killing a deer or bear. In my opinion you can't go wrong with either choice. Remember shot placement is key regardless of the weapon or power of the weapon.

pslabaugh, I'm 60 and just bought a Matrix 380 a bit ago. I would say I'm of average strength. I have no back problems. I have no problem at all cocking the 380. So, unless you have a problem lifting, I think you would be just fine with the 355. Since you're new to crossbows, I think it's a good idea to have the anti dry fire device as well as the the R.E.D.s or, better yet, the RBBBs from Danny Miller.

I had and Exomax and sold it for the 330. Really it's all the bow you need. The other half has an ibex which is lighter yet and that bow took out two deer the first year she got it and the second deer was a 12 pointer. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I could have gotten a 355 but I'm the same height as you 5'5 and after having the beast (Exomax) I wanted something more suited to my body size. When I bought the Exomax I didn't know anything about crossbows. I just wanted a big bow or go home a wuss. I've learned from this forum as well as experience that really you need to let the bow pick you so I would say go out and check both models out and let the bow pick you. Try both out. Both to cock as well as shooting. You will know then which one is right for you. Don't do what I did the first time round and let ego pick. Go big or go home.....what was I thinking lol.

I would suggest getting one to check out hands on. If you have a sport shop near by, that is what I would recommend. The 330 will do the job as the others have stated though. Good luck on your decision.

imo the string stops are more of an insurance policy in case of a dry fire rather then to quiet it down. a crossbow will never be quiet and by the time a deer hears the noise it is usually to late to matter :!: :D

330 will do fine for you and I would get the string stoppers. I'm using Danny Millers which are cheaper. If the Vixen 11 will shoot through a deer (and I know it will from experience :-) 330 most certainly will :)

For me it was the camo color.I like the mossy oak infinity so I got the 330. 8) If the infinity had been on the 355 I would of got that one instead.

Since the temps warmed up, I've been shooting about 20 arrows a day. I hardly ever take my 380 out to shoot anymore, (it's my go-to bow once hunting season comes around). My 330 is way more enjoyable to shoot for longer practice sessions. Cocking it, removing arrows, and the reduced noise/vibration are all factors that make this bow great for people that shoot a lot.

If your bow stays in the case until hunting season, and you're fit enough for the little bit of extra poundage of a heavier bow, go with the 355. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Thanks to Wyvern Creation for the Great Service and Fast Shipment.
Theres not much noticeable differences between the two. But the 330 is slightly easier to cock. Holding off hand for a long period of time then you'll start to notice the 355 is abit heavier. But my 330 does wear a lighter scope combo vs the Factory TactZone (355). The 330 comes with a Shorter Quiver vs 355. With either bow your wont be disappointed.
