Before anyone can give a reasonable opinion, it would be useful to know what you plan to do with the bow. Either is capable of killing about anything you would want to hunt, assuming you plan to hunt.
Also, how old are you? How tall are you? Do you have any back problems? At what distance do you plan to shoot?

How big a boy are ya? Let me say same things as your first reply. The 380 will kill anything on earth you want to hunt (that is of course you hit it in correct place). That said, if you are the gotta have the newest, fastest, bestes crossbow on earth then the 405 is for you.
But, keep in mind that after sitting in tree for 3-4 hours in the cold, should you need to cock that baby without a crankaroo you need to be a big boy. If you will want to shoot your crossbow more than the average hunter (keep in mind the folks on here are not the average hunter I'm describing - most are avid fanatics that shoot crossbows year round) then the 405 is not for you. You'll wear out quick just pulling the arrows out of a target, never mind cocking it.
All that said only you can answer some of your question, you really should seek out a shop that has a range and will let you try both. Or maybe you'll find someone on here not to far away that can let you try theirs if you have no shop close by. Either one you going to have one of the finest crossbows out there.

Re: Matrix 405 vs 380
Ocella, I think what Hunt It means is that most people on this forum at least think about their crossbow every day if not shoot it every day.
Given your reply, I think you would be happy with either of the two bows. In fact, you might want to consider the 330 and the 355 as well. All are equally enjoyable to shoot and the lower poundage bows are a little less expensive. You might want to consider getting one that has the anti-dry fire device.
Edit: Corrected typo (355 not 335)

Re: Matrix 405 vs 380
Correct, if you are not going to hunt then 405 is too heavy a bow in both physical weight and draw weight. The 380 is lighter in physical weight and draw weight but still overkill for targets. Save yourself some money and go lighter with the 330 much more enjoyable to shoot. 330 is still plenty enough for any critter on earth if you do choose to travel abroad and hunt with it.
