Opening day success

Post by Doe Master »

Me and Dad/Oldbuck got up this morning at the crack of stupid to chase Thunderchickens . :)
Because we have in the past bumped the birds while walking in . We went in while it was still kind of dark . We parted ways at the fork in the trail with some good lucks . Even though I`m only maybe 200 yards apart it takes me a while to go all the way around the swamp to get to the otherside . I no sooner sat down with 20 minutes to spare before legal . And the chorus of gobbling began . There was four gobblers all within 200 yards trying to outgobble the other . Finally 20 minutes into legal one of them gave into to his primal urges and flew down . :) He proceeded to dance for his imaginary girlfriend whom was calling seductively to him and his friends .
All he found was a loud thunder clap and a angry swarm of #6`s . :)

We decided to go and scout/hunt another bush . Dad was walking a lot little he found when he doesn`t have to carry a gun . We walked and called here and there . We managed to walk up on two turkeys and bust them before we knew they were there . :? Dad was getting tired so I convinced him to go to just one more spot further in . :D I had him sit down so I could clear out a couple of branches that had fallen since last time there . Well when I happened to snap a branch alittle too loud I was able to shock gobble a bird . GAME ON !!!
After a quick setup I waited about 5 minutes before my first calls . Nothing !!!
A couple more calls on the box call I won here on the forum . Still nothing !!!
But then all of a sudden I catch movement off to my left in the thick stuff . I whisper over to Dad we have company . :) Ends up we had two birds coming in silent . One was doing the strutting and the other was the security . When they finally came out of the thicker stuff and separated . I took the strutter .

Considering Dad is 3/4 of a century not bad . Getting a double for opening day . :D

Pretty nice morning in the turkey woods. Nothing like a Big Skittle box call. Mine has called several to their last romance. :D :D
