Serving Separation

Post by typical10 »

After less than 40 shots the new string on my m380 is separating the serving at the nocking point of it. I have waxed and rewaxed it, along with a little rail lube. Is this normal? thanks jeff~

I applied rail lube when I first started shooting an Excalibur and I think it actually caused the serving separation. I threw the "rail snot" away after that. Some say wax the serving others do not wax. I use very little wax on the serving and usually after 30 to 50 shots. It could also be you got a poorly served string to.

Serving (separation) has less to do with maintenance than with how tightly the serving was applied when made or re-served. Premature wear may be indicative of rough latches or failure to lube the sting or deck. But separation is caused by poor serving. I serve my strings with considerable pressure on string jig and strings that are stretched with some 200 lbs force. That, and using quality material like Angel and Halo, results in no separation. EVER!
