Rainy/Sunny 380 Tom

Post by Big John »

Went out today at 6:00 am to get me a Tom.
Even though it was raining pretty good, I thought I would get a chance. I have been scouting pretty good, and figured they would come out around 8:30 am. Well, .....
WRONG!!! They were already out at 6:00 in the RAIN!!! Son of a B.....!!! Well I skirted around two properties to get up on them, didn't work! However they only ran into the bush a small bit. I climbed into the blind to get dried off, and wait out the Birds for a while. Well, Sun came out and so did the Birds again! But, they didn't want to come to close to my AvianX Decoys just bobbing nicely in the Sun! Although I kept trying different calls, purrs, clucks, combo's, they just wouldn't come in close enough. About a half hour before I was going to pack it in, along comes a Hen, then another, and another..... then a nice Tom!!! Got my Matrix 380 up and ready, even though they were aways out, and hoped they would come just a bit closer than 90 yds.!!!!
Well finally after a few small cluck and purr combo's they swung back towards my food plot area, around 60 yds. out. I figured if they got to there they were gone! So as the Tom went by I ranged him at 52 yds. Not normally what I want, but, I practiced 50 yds. lots, so why not! Let it go, and THUMPED that Bird GOOD!!!!
Well here he is:
20 lbs.
9-1/4"in. Beard
3/4"in. Spurs
