Martina's First Gobbler

Post by cspot »

The quick synopsis of the morning hunt is we heard a bunch of gobbling on the roost but not much after that. We had two longbeards come in front of us around 7 o'clock or so, but they never got closer than about 60 yards or so. The next couple hours was pretty uneventful. Around 8:30 or so we put up a few decoys in front of us, but the action was dead until about 9:30. At 9:30 a couple of hens came back into the field followed by a gobbler. They were about a hundred yards away when we saw them. The gobbler was in full strut the entire time. It took about an hour before they finally got into range in front of us. The gobbler weighed 18.4 lbs with a 9.5" beard and spurs of 1" and 1 1/8". This is Martina's first year spring turkey hunting.
