Sweet Revenge

Post by mr meat »

Shot with the 355!! :D :D Well after the turkeys have been kicking my butt since day one i finally got revenge Got set up this morning about 20 yards from the roost without being caught.Settled in and the wait began!.Looking around it looked like they weren't roosted there .They have been there every day,i spot a blob off to my right and think yes that is a turkey .25 after 5 a tom gobbles to my left game on i think. The day before as soon as the one gobbled it had hit the ground so i thought it would be the same!Well there was only one gobbling and he stayed in the tree till almost 6 He hit the ground and off to the right he went to show off for the hens who were still in the trees

This went on for about 10 minutes and he would not come back in front of me.After yesterday the decoys were in the truck and i didn't even have a call out! Finally a hen flew down and landed to my left and then another and they were moving more to the left so i thought perfect the tom has to walk back by me he just better be in range Well he started making his way back and the bow was up and he stopped so i let him have it and down he went .The hens started to make a racket as i put the bow down and relaxed. The tom decided he was going to try and get up so i jumped up and the last hen flew down and away they went

Got over to the tom and seen he wasn't going to far and put my foot on his tail and he started flapping and most of his feathers came out so no pics! Beard was 9.25in and one spur 1in the other.75 No scales but would put him around 20lbs and paced it off to a 34 yd shot. As i got out to the open field on my way out was a lone gobbler
Strum hang in there i never thought it would happen but it just takes a while

Congrats on a great hunt. No turkeys here but I spent the day stalking cock pheasants with my gillie suit. What a hoot. Had the crosshairs on three today and if the season was open I would have gotten all three. Gillie suits rule when it comes to walk and stalking small game. I though one of the cocks was going to try and hide under me when an osprey flew over us.
