Welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear / see you are having an issue .

I have been shooting Excals at 3ds for a long time ( 1992 ) . Still use my original Excal Rope cocker , complete with Briggs and Straton pull handles ! Have just changed the rope on it , do not know how many thousands of arrows I have shot using it ( used at 3ds , hunting ,and practice ) . Use it to unload as well . Do not see any wear on my Exocet200 in the area you have pictured .

This issue has me stumped .

I like to use string wax on my cocker rope, helps lube the groove, which is always a good thing!

When I first got my 355 my cocking rope was showing some scuff marks after just a few dozen shots . I notice that the rail stood a little proud over the stock . I took it apart and soften the edges . Over 500 shots later no problem .

Farmer, I love my B & S handles as well.
So far no issues with wear on my stocks from the rope cocker.
When target shooting I rarely de-cock the bow with the cocker.
I put my last arrow into the target.
Depending on where I hunt, I may shoot a crap arrow into the ground or de-cock on the soil type and aggregate mix within.

I too use string wax on the cord of the cocker. I use cord the same thickness as the original. Larger cord will make for less stretch and friction.

Not offering this as advice (cause I am far from qualified to do so, really) but I wonder if you smeared some JB weld in there to transition the exposed metal to become a radius rather than an edge? Again, this is not advice, just simple conversation... :?:

I'm seeing something similar on my 380. It's been shot a lot, cocked, uncocked, strung, unstrung, restrung, brace height adjustments, etc etc. I chalk it up to normal wear and tear from usage. I don't abuse my stuff in the least but I bought it to shoot and hunt with, and signs of wear is just part of it.

Hello and welcome,

I hunt pretty hard for the 3 months as well but my bow normally hangs for the other 9 months. I'm like you and always let my bow down using the rope cocking aid. In the 9 or so years I have had my Max I am on my 2nd cocking aid due to wear. Sounds like you put a little more use through yours than mine. My Max is showing wear too but not too the extent that you have ...

Just thinking out loud here . . .when pulling on the rope, that area should remain stationary, correct? The wear would have to come from attaching the handles uneven, then evening them up after you put pressure on the rope.

Even if you put the rope on uneven and work it back and forth, it seems like the wear would mainly be on the back ends, not as much at the sides.

If you can even up the handles before putting a lot of pressure on the rope, then there would be very little wear.

Anyway, I've shot my Exomax a ton and have very little wear . . .no wear really. Next time I shoot, I'll have to pay attention.

Thanks for the post and good luck!

Very interesting post. As mentioned previously, I would consider removing the rail from the stock and lightly sanding and polishing the rail. I'm betting that would solve the issue. I certainly wouldn't be okay with chewing up cocking aids. Good luck with it and keep us updated on what you come up with.

The rope is stationary when cocking.but uncockgwith rope will wear the groove as it move quickly and is under force. My new Mega got white groove 1st day ...unlocking alot with rope WILL rope burn the groove

I think just a defect in the stock, send it in for a new one let them look at it.

Uncocking the New Matrix Bows quickly will produce an enormous amount of friction.
Continuous uncocking will easily do what is seen in the pics. I know it sounds a little hard to do it slower, but it helps.
Still, the wear will happen quite fast with the new bows and uncocking with the rope cocker. Happening on mine now. I am going the route of rounding the rail edge when the time comes, and it will.
There will need to be something done in that respect at the factory to solve the issue.
but I'm sure they will. :)

Welcome to the forum. After looking at the pics I believe that you have a valid problem. I just checked the beast and there is some definite wear. If it starts to eat ropes I will build it back up with an appropiate epoxy instead of sending it back. It would definitely be cheaper to repair than pay for shipping back to Excal. I will now start waxing my rope cocker as other members above have stated. Thanks for the tip guys! 8) Good luck with you bow and happy shootin,
Hank
