Lightening Strikes THREE Times!

Post by IronNoggin »

Today British Columbia's Limited Entry Hunting Draw results were (FINALLY) announced.

Running against worse odds then winning the lottery 5 times, I actually drew another moose tag in our favorite zone! This should NOT have happened! My odds should have been lower than a snake's belly this year as this represents the third year in a row I have drawn moose! And the handful of "Virgin" LEH Buddies I had put into the same zone missed??
Beyond Bizarre!

Missed on a couple I thought I should have drawn at MUCH better odds??

But then also drew a Grizzly in an oversubscribed area I thought I had less than the proverbial Icicle's Chance.

Dragging the Matrix along for the Slobbernose, and intend to give her a better opportunity this season. NOT for Not-So-Gentle Ben!

Stay tuned Folks. Regardless of how this shakes out, I feel another Epic Tale in the making...

Cheers,
Nog

Your one lucky guy Nog. It took me four long year just to get to hunt Iowa from whitetails. Best of luck with that Griz. Talked to a gentlemen that took a record griz with a bow and arrow on the ground. I asked what he did after he shot it at 15 yards. He said, I hide. THAT says a lot about them bears. Best to take Boo along cuz he has short legs and you should be able to out run him.

Congratulations Nog. I'm glad for you but seriously, how flawed is our ridiculous L.E.H.system! I've boycotted it for years, putting in with resident friends in Alberta instead. I did put in here this year to do a family hunt with my uncle and cousins and managed to draw a bull moose in 3-38. Whaddayaknow!? What area did you draw for?

You are Bang ON! The LEH system in BC is Right Screwed UP!
And let me explain just why I think so (using yesterday's results for the example).

Put in at EXTREMELY Good (as in basically 1:1 odds) for Muley. Miss.
First year since living here I gave up on Elk in the back-yard (Island) and went to MUCH better odds on the mainland: Miss

Of course didn't expect the Kamloops sheep, so the results were No Surprise: Miss.

Had several LEH "Virgins" put into our area for moose, both group and singles: Miss.

Yet for the THIRD year in a row, I draw for Moose??
Shouldn't MY odds have been SUBSTANTIALLY Reduced having drawn the previous two years straight - This making it THREE?
Should not the "Virgin" singles & Group applications surpassed mine?
WTH

Also put into a rather dismal odds area for Grizz, and got it?? Huh? You're kidding me?

I know no-one in the ministry that would have tipped the odds in my favor - that is CERTAIN. I can think of NO reason why I would have drawn the moose (THREE TIMES NOW!) when others who are at supposedly MUCH better odds miss. Nor can I understand why I miss at pretty well one to one odds? Nor why I could possibly collect an over-subscribed Grizz?

NONE of this makes any sense to me beyond pointing out the Fact this system is about as Screwed Up as it could possibly get!

Nonetheless, I shall endeavor to persevere and wander out once again to tackle ol' Slobbernose, and more than likely Not-So-Gentle Ben as well...

Seems to me somewhat unfair though. Methinks we are WELL overdue for an overhaul....

Congrats on the draw Buddy!
Our moose area is smack surrounded by the controversial "Title" just granted to the First Nations by the Supreme Court. Not inside those boundaries, but immediately adjacent. As a consequence, you can bet your butt we're Going In HEAVY!

Also have five pending draws in Alberta, and of course a few guide tags should those fail... A rather likely run methinks...

WON'T be dragging the pointy sticks along for Grizz! Had more than my share of close encounters with those particular Furballs, and I'm leaning towards something ON Wheels!

Cheers,
Nog
