Pyrethrins or its derivatives will be your safest bet. If you have a fish pond or beehive then pyrethrins are out.

Do not spray with diesel, you will poison your ground water. Fleas like dry areas. Start by cleaning out the barn completely and then spray.
I forget what the cycle is by you have to deal with the next generation of fleas as well.

You've got an Excalibur, just shoot 'em all dead

What Boo said, you need to find something that kills the eggs as well as the adults, otherwise they continue to hatch out and you're always back to square one. It might take several cycles and applications. Good luck with it.

Look into daitomaceous earth. Available at TSC and farm supply stores. Get the food grade one, not the one from the lawn & garden places.

Will work, its cost effective, and safe for pets and kids.

I give it to my dog with his food to prevent parasites and i use it around the house to control ants and earwigs.

Permethrin will work,,just don't use it on cats either. Ok for the dog and humans tho. I use it on all my hunting clothing and backpacking equipment for skeeters and ticks too.

Tobacco dust is a old remedy, spread around and fleas will leave the area.
Usually at feed stores.

My old hillbilly method. No way safer or easier works in a few days. Keep k9 advantage plus or k9 plus 2 on your dog monthly and let him run loose. I haven't had a flea in years!
