Removing Black Eagle Inserts

Post by Big Woods »

Ok I'm going to cut my 20 inch Executioners down to 18 inches. I'm assuming I should just install a target tip and heat it with a lighter or propane torch and then pull it out with a pliers to remove the inserts??

What kind of glue are people using for their inserts? I've had good luck with arrows for vertical bows using Gorilla Super Glue. I'm assuming that would work well with the Executioner inserts as well?

Thanks!!

gorilla super glue can do the job but nothing better than 24h epoxy glue

Don't overheat, you can ruin an arrow quick. I toasted one of my Firebolts that way, I let it get too hot and it put wrinkles in the carbon right behind the insert.

put a target point in the insert and heat it..not the arrow. Let the heat go from it to the insert. That way you don't apply heat directly to arrow shaft. works for me.

Since you are cutting off 2 inches why not just cut them and then get old insert out of off fall? Just a thought .

Yep, good idea! Or cut the other end.

Try heating a small amount of water, I usually let the water come to a boil and insert the bolt end I want to remove. Not sure if it will work on your bolts glue or not.

I would just cut the rear end off and then replace with a lumenoc.

If you cut the front put the cut offs in a capped container of acetone for a week or 2. That will breakdown the glue between the insert and the carbon. Screw in a target tip, put the tip in a vice and use a pair of pliers to remove.
