Hung my first stand - most amazing tree cam pics i've taken

Post by duke19ex »

Just got back from picking up my preseason tree cam pics and hanging my first deer stand. see a small highlight slide show here:

This is the same spot I shot my 2nd crossbow deer last year on the last day of the season. the farm has corn planted this year. I've had my camera at this spot for the past 4-5 weeks. The photos are beyond anything i'd imagined. due to the new baby on the way, my hunting will be limited...but when i'm able this is going to be the spot. The time and date stamps are wrong on the photos. I've corrected that now. Actual time is 5.5 hours prior to what it is displaying in the photos. The monster 8 point(nickname=Pass) bed down in front of the camera for over an hour. I've got him on lots of shots, but usually in the very early morning hours. I'm hoping that i'll get lucky one day and see him during daylight as he's the one I want. The 10pt (uncle charlie) would also be a nice trophy. Frankly, i'd be happy with any of these bucks and may shoot the first one I see.

I've nicknamed the 3-legged fawn hobble. Hope she makes it.

would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, advice, etc. Always looking to learn from you guys.

OK, I would shoot that buck, and it looks like you have a lot of activity there. If you have a good entry to the spot in terms of wind, and not bumping the deer, it will produce!

Good luck, hope to see you holding that deer head in a picture soon!

9 years ago my brother shot a doe on a farm across the road from me. He hit her low in the front right shoulder breaking her leg but not killing her. The leg eventually scabbed over, and the bottom portion feel off leaving her a nub right below the shoulder joint. I have trail cam pics of her 9 seasons in a row. I live in a heavily hunted region where I'd guess a deer's life expectancy is 2-3 years at best in most cases. She's gotten a free pass from me once in 9 years and once from the conservation officer next door. I assume other neighbors give the same grace, but otherwise she is the wisest old critter out there. I'd say after 9 seasons of hobbling along on 3 legs she does just fine and doesn't need to be "put down". I'd encourage you to see how long you can keep her alive.

Sat two days in the stand. farmer was cutting the corn, and while I hear that could have been a good time to hunt, it didn't seem to help. All pics of the bucks are super early in the morning. the stand has lots of activity at 4:30-5:30 am.... I'm not sure where deer are going afterward....Hopefully as the rut kicks in times will shift a bit. looking forward to rattling horns for the first time.

Here are the best photos from the past couple of weeks.
