Brace height. String length.

Post by servinproud »

Hello all. I have a matrix 355. I'm trying to see if my string is in the correct position. It is resting at the joint where the riser meets the rail. 1/2 inch from end plate. Is this correct. Or should the string be resting on the two lines which is a little over an inch from the end

Welcome to the forum!

The string should be about 3/4" from the joint where the rail and riser meet. Or if yours has the two marks on the rail, the string should be in between those marks.
Do you have a stringing aid? That's how you adjust brace height, you use the stringing aid to take tension off the string then add twists to the string to raise brace height. Personally I wouldnt shoot it with brace height that low, you could possibly damage the bow.

No I don't have a stringing aid. My bow has a line on the rail one inch from the riser. The string is sitting on the joint where the riser and rail join which is 1/2 inch . I took it to the pro shop last week and he twisted the string and got me to that point which raised the FPS from 280 to 348. But I still don't think it is far enough.

My 355 sits 7/8" from the split.
Congrats on the sweet bow.

You have to use a hosting service like photobucket. Upload to photobucket then copy the image URL and paste in your post inside the "Img" image tags.

I may be missing something, but it sounds like you are measuring from the wrong spot. If your string is sitting on the joint where the riser meets the rail your brace height is measured as zero and string must be twisted tighter (string should rise up on rail towards scope end and away from riser) before safe shooting.

Servinproud sent me a picture of his bow and I'm posting it for him. Brace height is way too low, don't shoot it like that! At a minimum the string should be above the lowest brace height mark.

Servinproud , welcome ! You definitely need to put several CC twist in your string to get it up above the line . If your not doing it I would suggest a LIGHT waxing of the center serving also ( Rub it in really good ) . Your latches that hold the string probably could stand a good polishing also ( search on here ) . String maintenance is really all you ever have to do to these xbows ! Enjoy ! :D
