How many twists??

Post by flatone »

Still haven't shot the new 380 yet. I got it all put together last night and the string was REALLY pressing into the stops. So I put on the stringing aid and it took 17 twists to get the string to sit 1/8" off the stops. Assuming this is normal??

You're going to be putting a lot more than that in it before it quits stretching.
It took mine about a half dozen times of putting twist in it before it settled in and stopped moving.
I keep mine about 3/16 to a 1/4 off the bumpers.

You had to add 17 complete 360-degree twists and you're still only 1/8" off the REDS? I might be wrong but that doesn't sound right to me.... Now if it was 17 half twists you added that's a little different. I've had strings that stretched a lot and ended up with 7 or 8 extra twists in them from where I started but never had to add 17 though. Are the loops in the grooves on the tips? Could you post a picture of the string tip-to-tip?

For a new string we are now putting 18 twists to fit the string allowing more than enough brace height and lots of time before it will need re-adjusting. Make sure you twist the string in a counter clockwise direction to keep the serving tight. If you twist the string in the opposite direction to the way the serving was applied you will loosen it causing premature string failure. More brace height is better than too little for the Matrix models.
