What are the best strings to buy, and how long do they normally last?

Best strings mean diff things to diff ppl. Some want speed, some want string to settle in quickly, some like a soft shot recoil n choose a dacron flemish. No bad strings or material jus diff uses n opinions about them n their use. String life, well they will last yrs if set upon a shelf away form the sun & heat. Then others maynot last a yr. Depends on how much they are shot. I go thru or wear out 2 or 3 strings every yr. 1500-3000 shots into my targets :)

The standard excal strings are good, or you can get various custom strings from members on this site which will cost a little more. A good Flemish string will last you years depending on material, use, abuse. Especially if you learn to reserve the old string yourself.
I've always got less life out of an endless loop string compared to flemish.
But its the string center serving usually goes the quickest, and center serving life will vary depending on string stretch, usage, workmanship, and materials used etc. There's plenty of online tutorials and help on this site if you want to learn to reserve your old strings yourself to save you money.

When you are talking to Danny Miller tell him that you are interested in a string. He makes all of them for Excalibur and his prices are great! He will have some recomendations and instructions. He wont tell you wrong.
His prices are so good.....get two, break them both in, and put one in your pack as a back up just in case.

I make both Flemish and Endless Loop (not for sale). Much prefer the Flemish string for recurves like Excal. They are lighter (ergo faster) stronger and a tad quieter, all things being equal. The stock Flemish string by Danny is definitely a bargain but Boo makes them into a work of art. Check out his site: http://boocustomstrings.com/ Lots of good info there.

Flemish for sure, and lots of choices to get them from as said. Good luck, shoot straight! :D

Ron, hands down the best string is your factory string that will come with your new Excalibur when you decide at some point to buy one. You could consider a custom spec string after you wear out your factory string that came with your bow.

I'll agree with the semi good looking guys. Use the string that came with the bow, buy an extra or two and wear them out. Over 90% of the strings used to kill deer are the stock strings are the stock/standard string and that means it comes with the right string.
If you want a recommendation for any other string start by calling the people that made the bow.
