Blackout Black Bear

Post by Carnivorous »

Just returned from an amazing week of bear hunting at Big John's Cabin with Big John,Normous & John's good friend Albert.

As soon as we arrived Sunday we went straght to baiting our stands & the next day had a nice bear show up at the bait.

I hunted Monday evening but the Bear didn't return.

Tuesday morning we went in to re-bait & check the cam & look who stopped by for Breakfast.

While I was back at camp the Bear was back to feed again.

These frames show the bear was still on the bait 2 min before I arrived for my evening hunt.

While I was in my my stand the Bear came back again at 5:30pm & hung around the bait for over an hour & finally came in for a good broadside shot. I steadied the Blackout Matrix 355 & sent my Bigjohn Zombie slayer arrow tiped with the NAP FOC broad head through the beauty bear for a 12 yard shot & a short 25 yard recovery. The NAP FOC head hit exactly where I aimed & provided a great blood trail.

Here I am inspecting the arrow that was burried in the ground down to the rear nock.

Tagged & on the way back to the Cabin.

A big thanks to Bigjohn for an amzing hunt that I will never forget. A special thanks to Normous for cutting his hunt short to help retrive my bear from a rather steep hill. :)

The bear backstraps we ate tonight were to die for, I love every minute of that trip from beginning to end except for a string aid problem that caused some problems...

I have known Big John casually for a few years now and found that when he says something he is most often correct. After arriving a his cottage to hunt bear we all pilled into Alfred's truck and went to set up baits for Jeff and I.

Down a logging road John pointed out a clearing on the right and he said bears can often be seen here and the place is thick with bears. No sooner did he say that we spotted a bear on the road in front of us, then two, then three. Jeffs eyes got Freaking Outrageously huge just like the FOC 3" broadhead that he wanted to use on this hunt.

We set up Jeff's bait nearby and John was correct again I might add. Two days later Jeff's Custom Blackout 355 pushing BE Zombies tipped with a 170gr NAP FOC 3" drilled and tapped the bear big time!!! Recovery was less than 25 yards.

A Note to Big John: Jeff and I did not have the heart to tell you the last day but when we went in to retrieve your bait barrel, that big bruin that taunted you for weeks left you a huge gift nearby.
The huge spiral shaped dump he left you nearby could cover a dinner plate and the top point looked like a middle finger claw sending you a message. John, I honestly think you and bears have the same feeling for each other.
