First fall Tukey!

Post by RonnieM »

Went out turkey hunting this morning, in the rain. I kind of like hunting turkies in the rain since the sound is muffled, pros and cons both ways, anyways. Walked and walked seeing nothing. I would sit, look, listen, nothing. Thinking should have stayed home in the bed on my day off, actually sick day cough cough. I headed toward a place I think they were roasting i found earlier in the year right in a big creek with huge trees, the reason being there were feathers everywhere. Anyways, got to the spot, im on a big ridge saw a hen down there. No way could i have got to her before she heard and saw me so i eased on on a fence line with a open field on one side, then corn on the other, i was on the side with corn. I spotted one out there, i sat and sat, no luck. I started easing down this fence line here comes about 6 birds about 30 yards, then about 5 more about 20 yards. I didnt wanna shoot on the other property-why are they always on the other property-. I took off my vest and things and army crawled with them hoping they would come on my side, never did. Had deer crap and mud all over me. Disappointment. One thing about hunting, it goes to 1mph to 100mph in a blink. I started easing on down then saw some toms. I am partial paralyzed in my left arm so i normally use my leg as a prop, had no time. They were about 20 yards. Army crawled a ways, then they started putting. I was like how in the crap did they spot me. They knew i was around but was not sure where exactly. I held my crossbow up in their direction, one handed-i never do that, A tree between us, saw a bread, then he would go back, i was like come on, then one got in my cross hairs, i shot, BAMB! However, it was not the freaking big tom, it was a small bird, but i dusted him. Anyways, first fall bird. And no pics. I think i would get made fun of for this one, however, it will go well in the skillet tonight, them pics i will post.

Good Luck guys. I have been lucky this fall. Going again in the morning

Congrats! I'm still trying to bag my first one with a bow. Any turkey with archery gear is a trophy in my book.
