First Deer EVER! Matrix 330

Post by Yolo »

Was out this weekend on a Ladies Mentored Crossbow Deer Hunt in which 'vixchic' was mentoring......she is amazing. and although she was not my mentor she did a great job of teaching me the ropes with my first deer EVER. I will never forget this great experience.

I took a yearling doe at 15 yards with my Matrix 330, Diablo luminok arrows (those things are amazing!) and bolt cutter broadheads (150gr).

My initial thought when I found the arrow was, athough there was a small amount of blood on it, was that if half of it was buried I must have missed. But it was a double lung pass through. Amazing. The perfect triangle of hair missing on the entry wound still dum-founds me, and the distance you could see the luminok from was incredible! We found her about 25 yards from the arrow down into the ravine.

Wow I am still on a high......

Congrats on your first. A very special deer for sure. May they all be as exciting. You may well see that deer for a couple nights when you close your eyes.
Welcome to deer hunting! One day you too may be a mentor.

And a shout out to VixChic for mentoring new hunters. That is something we all should try to do.

Congrats Yolo, you did real good.

For a yearly, that's an awfully big deer. If it was any bigger it would be as big as your Matrix.

Got to get me one for those cameras.

BIG CONGRATS on a beautiful harvest!

It was an honour and a privilege to be there when you recovered your first deer. Thank you for that!

Hope it's ok, but I have to post my favorite photo of that night - the moment right after you found it. What infectious joy! Getting to watch stuff like this gets me all choked up. Love it.

Adele you made a PERFECT shot. Beautiful.

There wasn't much bloodtrail but your shot placement was excellent. It was good for the ladies to see that even with a perfect shot there isn't always a "spray paint" trail to follow. You also got to track down a steep ravine in the dark in wet woods - great practice for us all!

I am so glad that you, the Howe family, and all the other volunteers, organized and ran this program for women. It's such an amazing opportunity for new women hunters to network and learn from each other's experiences. It's also a lot of fun. :D Thank you for all the work you put into the event! And thanks for the invitation to mentor again. Love that stuff! :D

I have to add another post to the thread. I want you guys all to know that Adele didn't just do a great job in harvesting her first deer, she also dug right in and with a little coaching she field dressed it herself!
