Dropping like flies...nanny down.
This one will get lost in the noise with all of the deer folks are dropping on here. LOL!
Traffic sucked getting home from the DC area today. When I got home, it was only about two hours till sunset. I grabbed my gear and hit the road. I was up in the stand about 1 1/2 hour before dark. I saw nothing till about 5 minutes after sunset. Two young deer and a big doe slipped up to 12 yards. I was really planning on getting down, but needed them to leave. I figured what the heck, and filled my third doe tag. I wanted to try out the cheap Cabelas EXP 3-blade expandable anyway. It looks like it entered a little high at 12 yards, but it came out through the armpit and leg on the opposite side. She ran about 75 yards, mostly downhill, and I heard her crash in a matter of seconds. Surprisingly, I found very little blood for the first 50 yards and only drops after that. The high entrance and exit through the leg/armpit area are notorious for not providing much of a blood trail. Fortunately, it was a great hit so a blood trail really wasn't necessary. For those interested, the Cabelas EXP head cut a nice entrance hole which surprised me for an over-the-top expandable broadhead.
Here is the entrance hole through the hide:
And the nice fat doe...
The arrow hit a big shale rock on the other side of the doe and threw sparks like fireworks in the dusky light. You don't expect sparks when archery hunting.

Re: Dropping like flies...nanny down.
With just 1 1/2 hrs left in the day to hunt, you went out anyway and GOT IT DONE! Goes to show that any time in the stand is better than none.
CONGRATS on the nice doe!
