Splintered limb on my Matrix 405
Boy does this stink.. The bow has been shooting great since day one. Wednesday night I noticed my broadheads started walking out of the "X" to the left and a bit low at 40 yards.. Well, after inspecting all the screws and bolts I discovered my right limb (from my shooting perspective) has developed a splinter on the out lower edge where it contours.... I called my dealer where I bought it from and he confirms that yes it will cause broadheads to plane off because that limb is now weaker than the other one. I ask about peeling the splinter off and sanding it down like guys have said that they do because these bows are bullet proof and a splinter is no big deal... His answer to me was "Hell no, not with the 405" I have to send it to an authorized center.. I ask how long before I will see my limbs once an authorized service center gets it. I'm told turn around is about two days once the center gets it back..Ok.... Now I call Excalibur and repeat this to them and I'm again told the same two days once the service center receives them.. I log into the Excalibur site and create an account for an RMA. I get the RMA and sent the limbs out Friday via UPS to Woody's in PA.. They are scheduled to receive it on Monday..
My question is: How accurate is this info based on personal experience?
I'm bummed out and have no faith in stated time frames because on a local forum, members have told me they were told the same story about a two day turn around when it turns out to be about a two week turn around. Of course I will call them on Monday and confirm but just had to vent..

Man that does stink! I'm sure they will get you up and running quickly. I am new to the Excalibur bows, but the things I have heard from other owners about their customer service, quality, and toughness is why I decided to purchase my Excalibur and I could not be happier.
But with that being said, it is the "trend " nowadays for companies to keep up with their competitors, Excalibur is no different, makeing faster and faster crossbows, narrower crossbows, shorter crossbows eventually they will push the envelope and their quality assessment from the public will start to dwindle a bit.
I'm not saying this will happen to Excalibur as a company, and they definitely know their stuff when it comes to development of recurve crossbows, it's just a shame in this day and age a company can't do everything right and not worry about keeping up with the jones's, stick with what is working and keep pushing through with it!
But I guess every advancement Excalibur has made throughout the years has helped stake their reputation, and I am sure that their new products will only get better with time.

It's hard to say from one picture, but that little splinter isn't going to hurt anything. I'd hunt the season with it, after sanding it away as you have read, and I did so with my M380 with zero accuracy issues last year. It's only when the splinter goes the whole length of the limb that you'd have a problem.
You'll get top notch service with Excal, regardless of what you choose to do.

Re: Splintered limb on my Matrix 405
Thanks guys for the info and support...
I did shoot it with field points and they were spot on. Only the broad heads started to plane off..
Also swapped out the broad heads from arrow to arrow looking for an arrow/head issue but not to be found in the arrows.. Even stripped off fletching and re fletched to look for a pattern.

....I agree with at least calling Danny Miller. He is top notch and will give you the proper advice. He will advise as to what is OK or not....It will work out!
I don't blame you for being a little frustrated at this point....I guess times like this is where we have to convince the miss's that we need a back up!

Re: Splintered limb on my Matrix 405
Have you considered trying a mechanical broadhead? Many mechanicals will get it done with field point accuracy.

Re: Splintered limb on my Matrix 405
I hope the service center can get it back to you quickly.
A splinter that size on my Phoenix would probably not create any accuracy problems (I have cut & sanded on about that size and finished the season with it in the past) but I can see where it might cause an accuracy problem with the 405. With limbs that short I'm sure they're stressed to the limit and a slight imbalance in the power of each limb could show up in a broadhead group.
Keep us informed of how things turn out.

Re: Splintered limb on my Matrix 405
My Slick Tricks have been spot on with my field points at 20 to 50 yards since I've had the bow. The only indication I had that there was an issue is that the broad heads started to walk left and low at 40 yards..
I'm not anti expandable, I just like fixed heads.
I've just begun to think backup in the last 12 hours... Not good for my wallet
