Matrix 355 limb tip failure

Post by tommieboi »

So I take the 355 out yesterday morning to hunt, (10/12), haven't seen anything since opening day (10/1), and here comes an 8 pt. Makes it way to me and stands broadside at 15 yds. I raise the 355, get it in my scope, squeeze the trigger, and BAM! Deer takes off 20 yds and stands there blowing at me... I glance at my 355 and whaaaa? My string's sitting loosely on the limbs and the limbs are straight. Look further to see what happened and notice that both tips are gone. Wtf??? (to be precise, the glued on pieces where gone). Glance down where the buck was standing and my bolts sticking in the ground maybe 1' away from where it was standing. Further inspection showed the left string loops serving was cut from being pulled against the edge of where the tip was glued to. Leads me to believe the left side tip went first and the force of the right limb pulled the string against the edge cutting the serving then the right tip flew off because of all the energy.
I did not know these tips were epoxied on. I've read some earlier post but didn't see what the resolution was to getting this fixed. Do they simply send the "end caps" to you and have you glue them on or do they replace the entire limb(s)? In my case, I have a damaged string too.

you will have to send it to them and they will replace the limb and string .

im wondering if your arrow was not seated properly.
it happens.. sitting in the stand the arrow can work its way forward and you end up with a partial dry fire..
when im in my stand I check the arrow from time to time and have got into the habit of checking it as soon as I see a deer.

its hard to say what happened... dry fires constantly run through the mind when I'm using the crossbow so like you I check often. and when I'm in the stand, the crossbow is always hung pointing up that way the bolt doesn't move forward. only time it points down is if I'm going to make a shot lol.
I'm trying Excal's online customer service system to see how its like first. If I don't hear a response in a couple days I'll call them.

If you put a general location in your profile it helps answer questions about service.
If in Canada call Excalibur.
If in the US the best service comes from Danny Miller. (740) 483-2312

I guess location would probably help. I saw his name and number posted before but couldn't find it on Excal's website so i was hesitant to call... but after your suggestion I did and he told me to get it to him and he'd take care of it.
Thanks to all that replied. I'll update once I get it back.

Update on repair...
Sent the head out last Monday and got it back yesterday. 1 week to date. Danny doesn't mess around. Got the matrix up and shooting again. He replaced both limbs and got a new string. Awesome service.
Once again thanks for the recommendation.
I also used Excal's online service but kind of slow. I emailed them Sunday and didn't get a response till Wednesday. Good thing I didn't wait or I'd still be without a crossbow.
And in response to shooter00, yes the brace height was within spec. 2 days before this incident, it was at 7/8 inch and it wasn't taken out till this hunt.
