First blood! M380 vs porky pig

Post by Kegbelly »

The 380 won! Bow season finally arrived here yesterday in Alabama. Me and my buddy took off work a couple days and hit the woods. Opening day was kind a wash, I didn't see squat but had one blow on me and my buddy got busted, but today was better. Been seeing a lot of rooting on one particular field so I was focusing on it. Got in the shooting house at 1:45 pm today, at about 2:00 I had a deer blow and I could here him/her /it run off through the woods. Now this is two days in a row I've had deer blow and spook on me on this same field, I'm thinking what gives? Well today I figured it out, it wasn't me they were smelling, it was this guy. Having had a deer just blow I figure today is wash too, so I'm goofing around with the range finder and the bow is leaned up in the corner. Out walks this guy 10 minutes later. I grab my 380 and bang the stock the arm of the chair as I pick it up, he bolts off the end of the field but stops and turns around and comes right back, trotting straight toward me. I shoulder the 380, he cuts to his right giving me a nice quartering on shot at 28 yards, I take it. My me-built 400 gr Zombie with 125 gr Stinger and lumenok with a blistering one-off Boo string at about 370 fps blows right thru him. Got a good hit, low and just behind the shoulder, right in the bread basket. He yelps and runs off the end of the field, and I see my arrow sticking out of the ground, glowing nicely in the shadows :D . Yeah baby, I got you clean through :D Not a huge blood trail but enough to follow, found him piled up about 60 yards off the field down in a hollow. Took me and my buddy a while to get him out, but hopefully the sausage will be worth it!
Lost a vane on the pass-thru but that's okay :D

That's a good thing IMO. They're good eating but man they are destructive! They'll run your deer off and flat destroy food sources. That was actually a pretty lush field, you can see how they've tore it to pieces.
