Finally put some meat in the freezer

Post by Hester0305 »

Well went hunting this morning and had 2 does come in around 9:00 eating some acorns down a deer trail. I took the second doe she was bigger with a 25 yard shot with a 125 gr. Grizztrick she went all about 50/60 yards at most pouring blood all the way, there was blood from where the arrow exited and buried in the ground from just about to where she made her death run. The Grizztrick blew a hugh hole in her right in front of my trail camera. The camera took a picture of both of the deer just before I shot her.

I've hunted hard this year, I lost my best hunting spot in August that I've had for only 4 years when the lady I was leasing from let a management property company take over all her properties in several states and they didnt want any leases on any of them. I had 7 bucks coming in to my feeders and several bear on a regular basis.

I have 2 other club properties that I've had for over 20 years but they don't have the deer the one I lost had. I was feeding corn on these 2 properties until the acorns starting falling and my corn just went to seed. One of my clubs has acorns everywhere so its hard to pin point where the deer are it seems like they're feeding everywhere on the acorns. Here are a couple of pics of my Matrix and the doe she weighed about 90 lbs live weight. I usually have 2 or 3 killed by now so hopefully my luck is starting to change.

Congratulations! Those slick tricks make a bigger hole than they have any business making. I've always been a fan. Best wishes for the rest of your season.

Eric,
Congratulations on the doe. I know what you mean down here as well. I shot 2 on opening week and then things have cooled off considerably. Have you ever checked out Backyard Bow Pro? It started out in Weaverville and I think there are several chapters in your area of the state. Might get you some good access to some good properties, and maybe even year round opportunities by helping farmers with depredation tags.
