Same Buck????

Post by galamb »

Ok, so I have two buck pics that I'm looking at - here they are side by side.

I won't give my thought (which may skew what you see), but am looking for opinions.

Are these the same buck or not. The pics are (time wise) about 3 weeks apart (the older pic is on the left side).

So what say the "trained eye" of deer hunters on this site???

Hard to tell but I'd say it's 2 different bucks. The left antler looks slightly different. Both bucks would score about the same. Neither would be a shooter in the club that I hunt.

I believe that they are different bucks based on the appearance of the G1s on each set of antlers.

Different; The left has wider antlers and the tips curl a little more. the right looks taller.

Velvet rack will be smaller. On the rack not in velvet,,bigger chested buck body wise and the antlers are also longer than the velvet rack also. Diff. bucks to me.

Thanks for the replies.

I also see two "different" bucks.

I hunt a 300'ish acre parcel of very nasty (rocks, swamps and hills) public (crown) land so can't be super picky about what it is you shoot (and it's surrounded by private land where the owners wouldn't let you shoot deer if their very lives depended on it).

So, basically anything with more than 3" of "antler" is a "shooter"

This "second" buck just doubled my odds of a successful hunt :D

I would say two very nice bucks that I would love to see in my crosshairs. We can't be choosy in New York, any deer that 's not a yearling is fair game.

its the same buck. left is in velvet yet. Right pic the buck looks bigger "body wise" because he is swelling up for the rut. right pic he is also closer and diff head angle resulting in rack looking slightly different.

There are a number of differences that make it impossible to be the same buck.
There is a difference in the overall shape of their racks.
The brow tines grow at different angles.
The deer on the left the top of his head is concave between the antlers while the one on the right is rounded upward.

Two different cameras at different locations. Both deer are face on to the camera although not the same body angle.

Two different deer!!!

What is the timeline on the pictures? If the pics are a year apart it could be the same deer. If the timeline is within the last two months then they are definitely different deer.
