Sorry about your troubles gendoc. Would never had thought of the cocking rope breaking, but your living proof anything can happen. If you have lost confidence in the Excalibur cocking rope, you can try this one as an alternative.

They claim to use a high strength mountaineering rope. I use it on my Kodabow and the handles allow a full four finger grip. Check your bow out good, hopefully everything is good. Good luck hunting!

I had a hook break on me on the 2 or 3rd of October using it to uncock my m380 and while I was holding one handle the other swung around and hit the tact-zone scope and there was a few pieces of paint or something inside the lense after getting hit and wouldn't hold zero anymore. the handle i wasn't holding just missed my face by a short and curly........ just got a new tact-zone after a few mess ups when I sent it back for warranty. took it out tonight and was a little nervous uncocking it with the pull rope but all was ok.

but this beast m380 has to be let down with the rope...
I never trusted it anyway

this is the bonified Excalibur cocking rope bought new with the matrix 380
last year.

it happened the second I pulled the trigger.

anyone experienced this ?

i'm inspecting my 380 for any damage.

all I know is my hunt was done

check out the chunk of roller missing on the complete hook.

and yes !!! hooks up, so I could see the string placement in the hooks

Not saying it's a contributing factor, but one thing I've seen/heard about is the wear on the camo in the groove in the stock where the cocking rope goes. This indicates to me there must be a lot of friction when the rope slides through that groove when the rope cocking aid is used to let the string down.
Where there's friction there is heat produced and that couldn't be good for the rope (or stock).

(I remember one post (with pics) a long time ago where one person actually had caused damage to the stock that looked like the groove had been so hot it was melting the "plastic" the stock is made of. )

Yikes. That must have been scary. I am in the shoot arrow to unload myself. I have zero problems with that. But i walk back to my truck and shoot there. Yes it's unloaded while walking out

Glad you are ok.

.....Is it me, never having heard this but more recently?....Wondering what Excalibur's take on this is?

......also, I am not an engineer, but it would seem to me that more stress would be put on the hooks and rope in the cocking phase and not the decocking phase.
In the cocking phase you are applying ever increasing pressure as you pull up to the latch. In the decocking phase you are holding an even amount of pressure and slowly releasing as the string comes back to an uncocked position...

You may be on to something with your theory.
My matrix had a ridge in the middle of the groove where the rope cocker goes. It looks like that is where two sides of the stock were put together. The ridge looked like it would be sharp against the rope so I sanded it down to make it smooth. It took the camo paint off as well, however, having a small bit of white in this spot is no big deal to me.

that sucks, glad no injury though; If you have to buy a new one I recommend the Parker Deluxe Red Hot Roller cocker. I would be surprised if Excal will replace it but you never know:)
