Hunting Fatality hits home

Post by Hester0305 »

Prayers are needed for a local man's family, Billy Wilson 42 yoa was involved in a hunting accident just several miles from my home yesterday morning where he fell from his tree stand and was found hanging from his make shift harness by another hunter that heard him yelling for help. He apparently suffocated before the other hunter found him.
Please pray for his family.

That's tragic. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

One has to wonder what his makeshift harness consisted of. I like the HSS and on the occasions I've forgot to bring it, my feet stay on the ground. Just ain't worth it.

It is too bad the person got hurt . When you think most of the treestand manufacturers put a safety harness in . It may be not the easiest to put on . But it is there .
My thoughts are with the family and his friends .

Sorry for the family's loss. I will never understand why some folks will spend huge amounts on guns, bows, camo, arrows etc. but when it comes to fall protection they cheap out. When it comes to safety equipment, always buy the best. Your family wouldn't have it any other way.

More than likely the home made harness was a strap/belt that he wore around his waist and attached to the tree. When he fell from his stand the belt/strap tightened around his waist cutting off circulation resulting in suffication.Just my guess. The waist belt/strap type harness was standard since the beginning. Finally manufacturers woke up after realizing year after year hunters were dying as a result of this type of harness.I'm sure you can still find many hunters relying on this type of harness not realizing the danger they pose.
