Post by aln »

Hi everyone. Im new here and i just got myself a matrix 330 and i have been finding it really hard to take off the 4 screws that hold the scope mount off to put on thr anti dry fire mount. Any idea or tip i can get or anyone i can go to that has the right tools to help me get it done??

best tool ive found is a 1/4" 3/32 allen tip in a nut driver or 1/4" ratchet.
lay it on something flat so you can get some good down pressure.

If you strip it them you can cuta slot with a dremel tool and use a flat screwdriver,,
you can pick up a set of drivers from any home depot ect. forget the allen wrench..
if you heat the driver, the heat will transfer to the screw and loosen the Loctite.

I heated mine till red hot and still stripped them. I simply cut a slot with a dremel tool and used a screwdriver to remove them.

Replace with torx .
I used a Button Head 1/4" 3/32 replacement in a TORX PLUS 15 .
Much more rebust in every way even more than a regular Torx.
Removal of the old ones take patience. Easy to strip.
Heat screw head with a small soldering iron with direct contact to the hex slot.

This is a good time of year to heat screw then cool quickly in sub zero temp. Then reheat a second time before trying to remove.

Use a Dremel to cut a slot, then use a screwdriver to loosen. Works every time!

Just a note that if you can get the front 2 screws out you can then rotate the scope rail up & back to break free the back 2 screws. Replace with torx as stated above and here is a pic of my Equinox with the torx screws.

When push comes to shove and you can't get it off, you can bring it to me to remove what won't come off.

X2....then throw those itty bitty headed screws away and use some torx head screws. You will not regret it.
